As Promised... The Despairing Poem

                                                                    Evil
                                                                by: Carie Shott
We cry.
         And scream.
And hate in such a selfish way.
And sometimes we hope away our madness.
Although hidden in a way so lost, it's there.
        That bean of evil.
      It grows.
The soil our lives, the water it's result.
Yet, by its side, the bean that makes us kind.
But it is smaller. And weaker. And given so little water.
As our lives are given not much of the good result. And that that is, we barely notice.
We convince ourselves that it's alright.
That we can still pluck the evil .
But the bean that it was born in, has roots of such a mighty plant.
          How would we pluck this?
As a child, we were kinder.
                                     Blinder.
Without the tiniest slip of knowledge.
      And so it' knowledge.
                  That's what feeds the evil.
A ommon nature of a human.
        As is evil.
Shown daily and even given respect and power.
      So evil is power.
As kindness is weakness.
Why is that? A question a child would say. And with that, follows evil.
      Oh, so much.
But why, why is evil bad?
                       What defines evil?
        Doing something bad? Like pain?
             Why is pain bad?
Because humans do not like it?
So is spinach to children evil?
Is the smell of gas to men evil?
Perhaps it is the corruption of religion.
Does this mean a plant is evil, without a Guide?
Simply because it did not praise.
Why is evil such a crime?
Why is it punished by things far worst?
Like death. And loss. And hopelessness.
            Why is evil not awarded?
It is made from factors given so much wealth and praise.
 Like cleverness.
        Quickness.
     Strength.
            Power.
  Ability.
And if these things were answered to those who listened, would they be evil, for their knowledge?
